The Pilgrims of Losar
They came from all over to celebrate here, in the Kathmandu Valley, for Losar, the Tibetan New Year. These pilgrims come from Nepal, Tibet, Buthan and the Sikkim state of India. This is an ancestral festival, a religious and family celebration.
It honours the Buddha with rituals, prayers, dances, games and shared meals. There is a big crowd. All have donned their celebration costumes to inaugurate the renewal of the land with its liturgy, praying, here for the prosperity of the country, there for longevity or the departed ones' happiness.. Losar, a spiritual and festive moment, also reaffirms its commitment and gratitude to the Dalai Lama. This is also, for each and everyone, a great moment of recollection, of private contemplation. These are moments that I have loved to photograph.
